TECHNOLOGY ALLIANCE’S 2014 YOUTH APPS CHALLENGE
Students from River HomeLink in Battle Ground, and others from 10 middle and high schools throughout Western Washington, were winners in a statewide competition this month in Seattle — the 2014 Youth Apps Challenge — designed to raise student interest in computer science education and careers.
River HomeLink’s Moonfish Design team — Shuey Bambilla, Everett Buttars, Blake Hunt and Michael Jameson — developed a chess notation app that they are hoping to get certified by the U.S. Chess Foundation.
The Unbeatables team, also from River HomeLink — Quiara Olvera, Ty Parker, Guinevere Richmond and James Zimmerman — developed an app designed to educate seniors on using their smartphones.

The Vancouver Branch of the American Association of University Women awarded Certificates of Excellence in science, math and technology to 26 junior girls from Vancouver-area schools.
