High school proficiency exams
HSPEs are required comprehensive exams that measure high school students’ basic proficiency in reading and writing, and serve as the state’s exit exams in those subjects.
Registration for summer retake
• Deadline: June 26.
o Online: https://eds.ospi.k12.wa.us/TestRegistration.
o By phone: 800-725-4311 option 3.
o Have ready: State identification number from student’s spring HSPE score report.
o Test fee: None.
Test dates
• Writing: 8 a.m. Aug. 12 and 13.
o Reading: 8 a.m. Aug. 14.
Preparation
Students should arrive by 7:45 a.m. and bring photo ID.

Although the school year is winding down, high school students and their parents should be aware of a June 26 registration deadline for a required state test. Missing the deadline — and failing to pass the test — can prevent a student from walking at graduation with their senior class.
