UPDATE: Wynston Alberts didn’t quite reach his goal for Sunday’s Vancouver USA Marathon.
The 43-year-old who lives in Tokyo hoped to finish in under 2 hours and 30 minutes. He missed that by 15 seconds, but won the fourth edition of the race by more than six minutes and set a new Vancouver USA Marathon record.
“I went out too fast,” said Alberts, a former All-American cross country runner at West Virginia who grew up in Roseburg, Ore.
Tonya Lutz from Salem, Ore. was the women’s champion posting a time of 2:57:01. Kristi Lachenmeier from Camas was the second woman to finish the marathon. Her time was 3:02:54.
