Students at Grass Valley Elementary in Camas were briefly evacuated due to a bomb threat Thursday.

The threat was found written in chalk on a sidewalk outside the school about 9:30 a.m., according to the Camas School District and the Camas Police Department.

School officials and police searched the building, disrupting classes for about a half an hour, but didn’t find anything suspicious.

Camas police Sgt. Scot Boyles said the threat level was low, but that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

School officials continued the school schedule as normal, but notified parents of the threat by email, phone calls and text messages. In the notification, they gave the parents the option to pick up their child early if they felt uncomfortable.

An officer stayed at the school for the remainder of the day.

“With recent events, we have to take these things very seriously,” Boyles said.

If anyone has information about the threat, they are asked to call the police department at 360-834-4151.
