Washougal — “I look up when I walk … so the tears won’t fall … for tonight I’m all alone. …” Sad stuff, but the students of Jemtegaard Middle School were happy to sing the classic Japanese pop song “Ue wo Muite Arukou” in its original language for their special guest, Hiroshi Furusawa, the Consul General of Japan based in Portland.

Furusawa visited Washougal schools June 3 to thank the district for its Japanese language programs. He bestowed the Consul General’s Commendation on Washougal High School and Jemtegaard Middle School and chatted in Japanese with students.
