Two Columbia River Gorge trails remained closed for a second day Tuesday as crews worked to contain a wildfire about 50 miles east of Vancouver.

The Dog Falls fire grew from 2.5 acres to slightly more than 3 acres overnight but was about 50 percent contained by Tuesday afternoon, said public information officer Bernie Pineda. The Dog Mountain and Augspurger trails are closed until further notice, he said. The fire is burning on a ridge above state Highway 14 near Milepost 56, west of Dog Creek.

High winds hampered firefighting efforts for much of Tuesday, Pineda said. Helicopters dropped water while a Hotshot crew worked on the ground.

The fire should be fully contained in the next couple of days, Pineda said.
