SkillsUSA Competition
Caleb Conradi, a student in Clark County Skills Center’s pre-engineering design program, took first place statewide in architectural drawing at the SkillsUSA competition last month in Tacoma, making him eligible to compete at the national competition in Kansas City. Conradi is a senior at Pearblossom Private School.
At the state competition, Clark County students participated and won awards in other events. Keenan Boudon, who is home schooled and a student at the Skills Center, took second place in technical drawing, with Heritage High School’s Vasiliy Grebyonkin finishing in third place. In the prepared-speech event, Brandy Wales from Hudson’s Bay High School took fifth place and home-schooled Emilie Williams finished in sixth place.
Washington Aerospace Scholars Program, Museum of Flight
Students from local schools have been selected to participate in the Washington Aerospace Scholars Summer Residency program at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. They will collaborate with other students to design a human mission to Mars with guidance from engineers, scientists, university students and educators. The local students are: Nolan Donovan, Columbia River High School; Adam Krout, Washougal High School and Virn Warndahl, Woodland High School.
National Merit Scholarship winners
Local students were winners in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Competition, based on their exceptional academic ability and potential for success in college studies. They are: Margaret Altenhof-Long, a senior at Mountain View High School; Joshua Hoesly, a senior at Seton Catholic College Preparatory High School; and Kara Schmidt, a home-schooled senior.
