The construction of a new wastewater pipeline between Ridgefield and Salmon Creek kicked off last week with a groundbreaking ceremony at the northbound Gee Creek Rest Area off Interstate 5, according to the Clark Regional Wastewater District.

The Discovery Corridor Wastewater Transmission System will create a new pipeline connecting the Salmon Creek Treatment Plant with the I-5 and state Highway 501 junction in Ridgefield. The $25 million project aims to support future economic development and provide low-cost sewer service to the area.

The system will include a new regional pump station to be built at the rest area. The pump station will be named for Neil Kimsey, who serves on the wastewater district’s board of commissioners.

Battle Ground contractor Tapani Inc. will begin construction in earnest later this month.
