BRUSH PRAIRIE — A treasure hunting enthusiast from Brush Prairie used her sleuthing skills to find a hidden medallion on Friday during the Portland Rose Festival Treasure Hunt. Before her eureka moment, Melanie Bryant had been spending a few hours a day poring over clues, which since May 26 were published daily on a website.

She found the medallion, wrapped in plastic inside a black bag, by the Willamette River on the Eastbank Esplanade in Portland. She won $1,000, two round-trip Alaska Airlines flights to a destination of her choice and a night at Spirit Mountain Casino, according to a press release.

Bryant is part of a small group of amateur treasure hunters who met on an online forum 10 years ago but now get together in person. Learn more about the treasure hunt at http://www.rosefestival.org/programs/treasure-hunt.
