Pleasant Valley band wins top parade honors

Pleasant Valley Middle School won the Band Sweepstakes Award for the second year Wednesday at the Portland Rose Festival’s Fred Meyer Junior Parade.

The annual event took over Northeast Sandy Boulevard in Portland’s Hollywood District and drew middle and elementary school bands, dance and drill teams, community floats, wagons, strollers, bikes and skateboards from throughout the metro area.

Other local award winners were Covington Middle School of Vancouver, second place in open class bands (100-plus); Maple Grove K-8 of Battle Ground, second place in A-class bands (99 or fewer); and Tukes Valley Middle School of Battle Ground, third place in A-class bands.
