The state Board of Natural Resources this week approved the transfer of 42.5 acres of State Forest Trust land in Skamania County to conservation status — a move that will give the county more than $300,000 in revenue, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.

The transfer allows DNR to replace the parcel of working timberland, which had been encumbered by federal endangered species restrictions. And because of a legislative appropriation in 2013, the county and DNR will receive proceeds as if a timber harvest had occurred.

Of the parcel’s $436,250 timber value, Skamania County will receive $327,188 and DNR will receive $109,062. DNR will use $63,750 of the land value of the property to buy replacement land.

The parcel, located north of Stevenson, is among thousands of acres of forestland that DNR manages in Skamania County.
