Forest Service officials have reopened the Johnston Ridge Observatory at Mount St. Helens after clearing a blocked sewer line.

Plumbers were able to quickly locate and fix the problems, said Tom Mulder, monument manager.

A small amount of sewage overflowed into the parking lot and is being cleaned up, he added.

The observatory, at the end of state Highway 504, provides the best view of the crater created in the May 18, 1980 eruption of the volcano.
