Hough — The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington recently wrapped up a yearlong series of “anniversary grants” in honor of its 30th birthday and aimed at interrupting the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
It gave $30,000 to Metropolitan Family Service for group and one-on-one financial education and credit coaching for low-income families. Families who complete their financial education are eligible for low-interest loans toward the purchase, refinance or repair of a car.
About 80 low-income parents and caregivers are expected to do the course and MFS will issue up to 40 loans to Southwest Washington residents who don’t qualify for conventional loans. Across the past year, the CFSWW made six grants of $30,000 each to local nonprofit agencies that are working against intergenerational poverty.
