BIG TEN SENIOR AWARD

Lindsey Elhart of Vancouver was one of two Washington State University seniors honored with the 2014 Big Ten Senior Award in Campus Involvement. She graduated from WSU last month with a degree in finance, and minors in political science and international business.

CAMAS-WASHOUGAL 2014 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

LJC Feed and Farm, owned and operated by Gordon and Patty French since 1995, was selected as the 2014 Business of the Year by the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Riverview Community Bank. Gordon French is involved in many community projects and organizations, including the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Gorge Steward Advisory and the Skamania County Fair. He has volunteered many hours spraying weeds at Steigerwald Wildlife Refuge area and volunteers as a teacher at WSU on soil and weed control.

CAMAS-WASHOUGAL 2014 CITIZENS OF THE YEAR

Camas-Washougal Rotary Club was awarded the 2014 Citizen of the Year. The club has raised funds to support local schools and students, holiday gifts for people in need, an international youth exchange, meals for homebound seniors, scholarships and other projects.

CHARLES SNOWDEN PROGRAM FOR EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM

Sarah Mason of Vancouver, and a junior at Linfield College, was selected for the Charles Snowden Program for Excellence in Journalism, and plans to spend the summer as an intern reporter for The Daily Astorian in Astoria, Ore. She is the daughter of Vern and Joanne Mason of Vancouver.

FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY — COMPLETION OF SERVICE

Nicholas Yencopal of Vancouver recently graduated after performing 10 months of national service in the Atlantic Region of the National Civilian Community Corps, Baltimore, Md.

GERMAN ACADEMIC EXCHANGE SCHOLARSHIP

Keith Welch, a 2008 graduate of Columbia River High School and a 2012 graduate of Linfield College, has been awarded a graduate study scholarship for the 2014-15 academic year by the German Academic Exchange Service, allowing Welch the opportunity to do independent study in Germany. Welch is the son of Curtis and Carol Welch of Vancouver. He has been teaching in Germany since the fall of 2013 under a Fulbright grant.

THE HONOR SOCIETY OF PHI KAPPA PHI

These students from Clark County have recently been initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi: Amanda Christenson of Vancouver, initiated at University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Tiffanie Truong of Camas, initiated at Boise State University; and Aaron Villanueva of Vancouver, initiated at Portland State University.

ONPOINT PRIZE FOR EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD

Elizabeth Lawson, a fifth-grade teacher at Crestline Elementary School in Vancouver, was named K-8 Educator of the Year by OnPoint Community Credit Union. As her prize, OnPoint will pay her mortgage for one school year and donate $1,000 to Crestline Elementary for resources and supplies. Lawson’s teaching methods have been recognized in professional development courses and she presented on the importance of providing critical thinking opportunities for students living in poverty at the National Council of Teachers of English Annual Conference in 2013.
