Art show set at Boys & Girls Club
There will be an art show at the Jack, Will & Rob Boys & Girls Club from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 4.
It will feature the work of JWR youth. Refreshments will be served, and attendees can learn more about the club’s programs.

Warren graduates from UTI
Washougal native Braman Warren recently graduated from the Sacramento campus of Universal Technical Institute. The school provides post-secondary education for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians.
Warren attended Washougal High School and Clark County Skills Center before completing the automotive and diesel training programs at UTI. She received multiple Student of the Course honors, which are awarded to the student with the highest grade in a given course.
Warren is currently working at George Stack Golf Cars.
CHS grad earns summer research grant
Sierra Hollar, recent Camas High School magnet program graduate, was awarded a $2,000 summer research grant by Boise State University and its STEM Summer Research Community.
The program hosts several activities in partnership with student research programs to expose the participants to interdisciplinary learning and research opportunities. The award is given to one student per semester.
From her winning proposal that was peer reviewed by a scholar in Germany: “I wish to engage in the study of a novel group of symbiotic organisms, trichomycetes, in order to develop skills and expertise that will offer a contribution to the larger scientific community. This research could potentially yield new discoveries of both different microorganisms and candidate hosts, as well as give insight into habitats, traditional methods to preserve, and even prospective ways in which to harness, cultivate, and observe them in detail.”
Warner Pacific announces dean’s list
Several local Warner Pacific College students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2014 academic term.
To qualify, students must be enrolled full-time and achieve a 3.5 or greater grade point average.
Students include Floria Arjomand, Norie Caniglia and Cali Lamb, all of Camas; and Margaret Bah, Kristine Grindy, Danielle Pettyjohn, Elizabeth Vonau and Heidi Wedemeyer of Washougal.
Area residents land on president’s list
Several sstudents have been named to the Gonzaga University’s President’s List for spring semester 2014.
Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 GPA to be listed. They include Anna Holman, Samantha Seward, John Tomassi and David Wright.
Gonzaga University is located in Spokane, Wash.
Cub Scout Pack hosts chili feed fundraiser
The Sensory Friendly Cub Scout Pack (Pack 2) is having its annual pinewood derby and chili feed fundraiser.
This is the club’s only fundraiser for the year. It will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hearthwood LDS Building, 22O Hearthwood Blvd., Vancouver.
The cost is $5 for all-you-can-eat chili.
“You won’t want to miss how a sensory friendly pack runs pinewood derby and the joy on the faces of our autistic scouts as they rev up their cars and take them for a spin,” said organizer Deanna Pehrson. “Our pinewood derbies run fast, so be sure to catch up with us on June 5.”
