Community sports notebook: Baseball tournament set

Five Clark County teams are among 16 that will play in a baseball tournament for players 20 and younger that takes place Friday through Sunday at Skyview and Battle Ground high schools.

The third Showtime Baseball Grant Hanson/Matt Cossman Memorial Invitational Tournament begins with games at 6 p.m. Friday, and runs all day Saturday.

On Sunday at Skyview, the top teams from each of the four pools will meet in the semifinals at noon and 3 p.m., with the championship game set for 5:30 p.m.

Teams from Clark County are the Vancouver Cardinals, Vancouver Red Birds, Showtime College Prep, Showtime Junior Prep and Hunter Baseball.

Learn to row event at Vancouver Lake

Vancouver Lake Crew is hosting a Learn to Row event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Vancouver Lake.

The free Learn to Row Day for ages 8 and older will include the chance to row both on the lake and on rowing machines with VLC coaches providing lessons. Vancouver Lake Crew is at 8612 N.W. Erwin O. Rieger Memorial Parkway.

Vancouver Lake Crew has rowing programs for adults and for students in middle school and high school. VLC offers opportunities for rowers to compete or row for fun in a variety of boats, including sweep or sculling boats, kayaks, dragon boats, and rowing for para-athletes.

Hershey’s track meet on Saturday

A local Hershey’s Track and Field meet for boys and girls ages 9-14 will be held Saturday at Cascade Middle School, 13900 N.E. 18th St. in Vancouver.

Registration runs from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. for this free meet, which is the first step toward qualifying for the national Hershey’s Track and Field Meet. The top three finishers in each age division for each event qualify for the state meet, which is scheduled for June 28 at McKenzie Stadium in Vancouver.

The running events are a 50-meter dash, 100, 200, 400 and 1,600-meter races. There is also a 400-meter relay race. The field events are a softball throw and a standing long jump. Participants may enter up to three events.

Girls basketball clinics at Prairie

Registration is open for two girls basketball camps presented by Clark College women’s basketball coach Al Aldridge, June 23-26 at Prairie High School.

The four-day camp for girls ages 12-15 (entering grades 7-9) will run 1-4:30 p.m.

The four-day camp for girls ages 8-12 (entering grades 3-6) runs 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Cost of each is $100 for those who register in advance, $110 for those who register on site.
