A Battle Ground man is in critical condition after a head-on crash in Clackamas County, Ore., on Wednesday afternoon.

John M. Fletcher, 18, was identified by Oregon State Police as one of the drivers in a serious crash at 3:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 26 near Brightwood, Ore.

Fletcher was extricated from a 2004 Subaru Legacy station wagon and suffered serious injuries in the crash, police said. He was taken by Life Flight to OHSU Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday night.

Fletcher was driving the Subaru west in the right lane of the highway when an eastbound 1994 Ford pickup driven by Trevor E. Hughes, 26, of Rhododendron, Ore., crossed the centerline and traveled into the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with the Subaru, according to state police.

The pickup rolled before coming to rest on its side.

Hughes suffered minor injuries and was taken to OHSU Hospial, where he was treated and released.

State troopers and detectives are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash with the assistance of the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office.
