A woman shot and killed her boyfriend at close range late Tuesday night in a West Hazel Dell residence in what authorities are calling a domestic violence homicide.
Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded to 201 N.W. 94th St. at about 11 p.m. for a report of gunshots and a person injured. The call came from the residence, where four people live, said Sgt. Fred Neiman.
When deputies arrived, they found 44-year-old Scott Montgomery Grossman dead inside his residence, Neiman said.
Grossman’s girlfriend, whose name was not released, shot Grossman with a handgun, Neiman said. She is cooperating with investigators and has not been detained or arrested, he said.
Neiman said he wasn’t aware of any previous domestic violence calls to the residence.
Grossman was sentenced to two years in prison in 1994 for delivery of methamphetamine in Kitsap County. Aside from that, he has no other criminal record in Washington.
Detectives from the agency’s major crime unit are continuing their investigation into the incident.
‘A little excitement’
Ed Price, 72, lives next door to Grossman and said he heard the loud rumble of Grossman’s Harley Davidson motorcycle when Grossman came home around 11 p.m. Tuesday. He didn’t, however, hear any gunshots and wasn’t aware that anything had happened until he saw news vans the next morning.
“I never saw them argue or anything, but we never spoke,” Price said.
Price said he has seen residents at the house operating what looked like a car-detailing business,, with a woman helping out with the vacuuming.
The news, Price said, was unusual for their quiet neighborhood.
“There are a lot of retired people in the neighborhood,” he said. “It’s a little excitement.”
