Military members honored for serving community

Esther Short — Five military members from the area were honored Friday for outstanding civic service. Receiving awards at the annual American Legion State Convention’s Spirit of Service Awards were: U.S. Army Sgt. Rose M. Bonilla, U.S. Marine Cpl. Malina Mon, U.S. Navy Aviation Maintenance Administrationman First Class David R. SanLuis, U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Mathew R. Rehagen and U.S. Coast Guard Boatswain’s Mate First Class Jason Gale. The ceremony was held at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. The service award is given to “outstanding military professionals who are actively involved in volunteer projects within their community during off-duty hours.”
