A Battle Ground man faces criminal charges related to a wrong-way crash on state Highway 14 early Wednesday morning.

Mark Chapman, 59, of Battle Ground was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable west in the eastbound lanes of the highway when the car crashed head-on into an eastbound 2013 Toyota Camry, according to Washington State Patrol. Both cars came to rest facing west in the eastbound lanes.

The driver and only occupant of the Camry, Kurt Gilge, 53, of Camas, was injured and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. He was later discharged from the hospital.

The crash was reported at 12:14 a.m. Wednesday near Southeast Columbia Way, and crews cleared the scene about three and a half hours later.

Chapman was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault.
