Clark County Public Health was one of 22 local health departments to receive a Model of Practice Award last week from the National Association of County and City Health Officials.

Department staff was recognized for using free, online software to record tuberculosis patients’ use of their medications. Tuberculosis treatment usually lasts four to 12 months and every dose must be observed by a health care worker.

Since 2009, public health has used the technology rather than making some in-person visits. The practice has reduced the time and expense involved in home visits.

The awards were given to organizations with exemplary programs that can be replicated in other communities.

The National Association of County and City Health Officials represents 2,800 public health departments in the country.
