Weather Eye: Had enough of the heat? Temperatures will take turn cool turn

Just when some of you were getting used to this warm weather, Mother Nature will be cooling things down a bit. Maybe even below average for this time of the year by the weekend. High pressure slides off to the Rocky Mountains and a cold trough of low pressure slides down from British Columbia and parks itself off the coast.

This brings us morning low clouds and afternoon clearing with highs in the 75- to 80-degree range — only a few degrees below average. I must mention there is always a slight chance of a shower from Friday through Tuesday.

Officially we have tallied three 90-degree days this month, some of you maybe four. I topped out at 90 degrees Wednesday but only 89 degrees Tuesday. Thankful for those northwest breezes here in Salmon Creek.

Speaking of Salmon Creek, if you want to see current conditions and a webcam of the area you can go to my Weather Underground page. It includes time lapse of the past day’s weather. On the Web go to: http://tinyurl.com/q22j63g.

I don’t foresee another heat wave in the near future. Next week is forecast to be pleasant. The next hot spell may occur as August rolls in. Regardless, the fire weather will be high, especially east of the mountains, where 100 degrees-plus has hovered over many areas.

The first Hermiston, Ore., watermelons of the season have arrived in grocery stores thanks to that hot weather. While down at the coast last week I noticed a few wild blackberries turning ripe, albeit still a few days at least from a good picking.
