o 11 a.m. Aug. 16: Bonsai workshop: Shimpaku Junipers. Workshop is for beginners and experienced artists. $35 includes starter Bonsai, pot and potting supplies.

o 10 a.m. to noon July 26: Pickles, relishes and salsas. Learn how to successfully pickle fruits and vegetables. Also learn how to make tasty relishes and safely preserve salsas and tomato products.

o 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 16. Canning vegetables, meat, fish and poultry. Clark County Master Food Preservers will discuss the pressure canning process, why it is necessary and the safe steps to using a pressure canner. Pressure canner gauge testing will be provided; bring your lid with dial gauge, rubber gasket/ring and safety plug.

Permaculture Workshop: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at 78th Street Heritage Farm, 1919 N.E. 78th St. Led by Joseph D. Leyda, certified permaculture designer and certified ecologist, this one-day workshop includes classroom and in-field instruction on basic permaculture design principles, zones and sector analysis, plant polyculture theory and planting guild design. This is an introductory class intended for beginners. It does not qualify students for permaculture design certification. Dress for the weather and bring water and a brown bag lunch. WSU Extension Clark County master gardener fall training: 12-week training runs 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 3 through Nov. 19. Participants are expected to complete a 50-hour internship in their first year and serve 35 hours yearly thereafter to maintain certification, $245. Cloud Nine Farm Tour: Noon to 2 p.m. July 27 at 15911 N.W. 41st Ave., Ridgefield. WSU Clark County Extension’s Small Acreage program sponsors the tour of a farm which raises goats and chickens in addition to growing a variety of vegetables, fruits and nuts. The tour includes examples of implementing practices to control runoff, manage manure and maintain healthy pastures. Registration is $10; tour size is limited.
