A small fire at the Town Plaza in Vancouver, the former Tower Mall, prompted the entire building to evacuate Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. at 5411 E. Mill Plain Blvd., which houses social service agencies. Everyone was evacuated from the building, and a second alarm was called after arriving firefighters found smoke, said Vancouver fire Capt. Ryan Morrisey.

Most of the second-alarm fire engines were canceled after firefighters found a small fire in an office. A single sprinkler head that controlled the blaze caused more damage than the fire, Morrisey said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.
