Youth ball: Babe Ruth state tournaments begin their run this week

Little League state tournaments also under way

The Southern Washington Babe Ruth state tournaments run Wednesday through Sunday, with the tournament for teams of 13-year-olds at Louis Bloch Park in Camas.

The host team from Camas-Washougal Babe Ruth will open the state tournament at 10 a.m. Wednesday against Longview. Camas-Washougal will play again at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against Mount St. Helens Babe Ruth.

Other round-robin games for the host team are at 4 p.m. Thursday against Twin Cities, 4 p.m. Friday against Richland and 4 p.m. Saturday against Kennewick.

On Sunday, the second- and third-place teams from round-robin play at 10 a.m. with the winner advancing to play at 2 p.m. against the round-robin top team.

• The Southern Washington Babe Ruth tournament for 14-year-olds begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at Roy Johnson Field in Kennewick. Hazel Dell Metro and Camas-Washougal play each other in that tournament opener.

• The Southern Washington Babe Ruth tournament for 15-year-olds runs Wednesday through Sunday at W.F. West High School in Chehalis. Camas and KWRL are the Clark County leagues with entries in that tournament.

Little League baseball

11-12 state tournament — Camas beat Salmon Creek on Monday in a loser-out game and will play Gig Harbor National in another loser-out game on Tuesday. Camas needs to win six more games to win the tournament for the division that can advance to the Little League World Series.

Junior League state tournament — East County, the District 4 champion, already has a spot in the Junior League Western Regional beginning July 30 at Clark College.

Evergreen is representing District 4 at the state tournament for ages 13-14, which is being played at Cascade Little League through Sunday. Evergreen won its first two games and plays again at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Salmon Creek plays a loser-out game at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Senior League state tournament — Columbia and Lewis River face each other at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the winners’ bracket at Shoreline. The winner will need one more win to become state champion. The loser must win twice to claim the title.

Intermediate state tournament — Hazel Dell and Camas each went 1-2 at the tournament in Snohomish.

10-11 state tournament — Cascade and Hazel Dell have qualified for the state tournament, which begins on Saturday in Chehalis.

9-10 state tournament — Cascade and Hazel Dell each won its loser-out games Monday night in Richland and will now face each other on Tuesday. Only one will advance to an 8 p.m. loser-out game on Wednesday.

Little League softball

11-12 state tournament — Columbia, representing District 4, went 1-2 at the state tournament in Oak Harbor.

Senior League state tournament — The District 4 age 15-16 all-stars won the three-team state tournament which ended Sunday in La Center.

Junior League state tournament — Ridgefield eliminated Bainbridge Island 2-1 on Monday night in a loser-out game in Shoreline. Evergreen has been eliminated.

10-11 state tournament — District 4 defeated Gig Harbor in a loser-out game Monday night in Auburn. It plays Federal Way in another loser-out game on Tuesday.

9-10 state tournament — Cascade and Battle Ground each won its opening game in the state tournament at Asotin, near the Idaho boarder. Each plays again on Tuesday.
