Newcomers in June up a bit compared to year earlier

The number of drivers who exchanged out-of-state driver’s licenses for new ones in Clark County increased only slightly in June compared to the same month last year, according to new data from Washington Department of Licensing on Wednesday.

There were 1,381 driver’s licenses exchanged for Washington licenses last month, up from 1,335 licenses in June 2013. In May, there were 1,634 out-of-state licenses exchanged for Washington plates in Clark County.

So far this year, Clark County has seen an influx of 8,253 newcomers, an 18 percent increase from 6,993 licenses exchanged during the same six months in 2013. Of the 1,381 drivers taking out Washington licenses in June, 598 were from Oregon, 234 from California, 49 from Arizona and 39 from Texas, the licensing department said.
