State Sen. Ann Rivers of La Center has been appointed to the newly formed joint legislative task force that is evaluating the state’s maritime and business sectors. Rivers, a Republican, represents the 18th District.

The bicameral, bipartisan task force will hold its first meeting on Monday. Its assignment , Rivers said, is to evaluate key areas of the maritime and manufacturing sectors including its economic significance; infrastructure and educational resource needs; the impact of urban planning and development on those industries; and opportunities for employment expansion. It is to submit short- and long-term action plans to the Legislature with recommendations for supporting and sustaining maritime and manufacturing industries, according to Rivers.

The Joint Legislative Task Force on the Economic Resilience of Maritime and Manufacturing in Washington was commissioned by House Bill 2580,which was signed into law earlier this year. A work plan is due by Dec. 1, with final recommendations due by Nov. 1, 2015.
