Esther Short — It’s an avalanche! Vancouver’s Northwest Avalanche men’s goalball team took fourth place in the National Goalball Championships in Ames, Iowa, June 19-21.

Goalball is a Paralympic court sport played by people who are blind and visually impaired. Developed after World War II as a way to keep blinded veterans physically active, it has become the premier team game for blind athletes.

The Northwest Avalanche team is organized and supported by the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes, a Vancouver nonprofit that aims to bring sports and physical activity to the blind and visually impaired. “We would like to congratulate all of the athletes,” said co-founder and executive director Billy Henry.

“Opportunities like these are essential to building confidence, self -esteem, and physical fitness.” Learn more at http://www.nwaba.org.
