Police arrested a Washougal man after a clerk was hurt in a robbery at a Camas convenience store Wednesday.
Keki Kiril Silva McKendree, 23, allegedly demanded money and threw an ax at a worker in the 7 Market, 3514 N.E. Third Ave., at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, said Camas police Officer Debrah Riedl. The worker was struck with the handle of the ax; he received a minor abrasion on his forehead and did not need medical treatment, police said. The store remained open.
Silva McKendree allegedly left in a red Chrysler Sebring. Around the same time, his mother called 911 to report her son was having a mental health crisis, then gave a description that matched Silva McKendree, Riedl said.
The Chrysler was later found, unoccupied, parked at the Port of Camas-Washougal. Police swarmed the area and searched the buildings and property. Port staff remained in the main office while the search took place, said David Ripp, the port’s executive director.
Silva McKendree was taken into custody on nearby Southeast 12th Avenue, west of the port. The investigation is ongoing. The Washougal Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office also assisted during the incident.
