Two Washington Timbers FC teams won their divisions during the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup XII Northwest Regional tournament.
Washington Timbers Red teams won the boys under-11 Super Group title and the girls under-15 Premier Group title. The open tournament was played June 21-22 in Redmond.
The girls team won by posting a 2-0-1 record and having a better goal differential than the Northwest Nationals team it tied. The Timbers Red beat the Eugene Timbers 3-0 on goals by Ashlyn Nelson, Jewels Soto and Erin Sinclair. They beat Mount Rainier FC 2-0 on goals from Nelson and Kailey Wooten.
Players of the tournament for the Timbers Red were midfielders Bella Swanson and Wooten, according to John Samwel, who coached the team along with Bryanth Garcia-Junco, Samantha Samwel.
Other players for the Timbers girls were: Lani Chin, Barbara Gulliford, Maddison Maffeo, Reilly Dale, Amanda Del Moral, Lacey Jones, Cambryn Gulzow, Kiley Taylor, Kayla Beard, Karsyn Quade, Kelsey Whalen, Katrina Abbas, and Mackenna Davis.
In the boys U-11 tournament, the Timbers Red won all four of its matches. The team went 3-0 in group play, outscoring its opponents 10-3, then beat Wenatchee Fire FC 8-2 in the title match.
No other details for the boys team were reported to The Columbian.
Goalball team fourth
The Northwest Avalanche placed fourth among men’s teams at the National Goalball Championships. Supported by the Vancouver-based Northwest Association for Blind Athletes, the team competed in the national tournament June 19-21 at Ames, Iowa.
Developed after World War II as a way to keep blinded veterans physically active, goalball is a Paralympic sport played by individuals who are blind and visually impaired. it has become the premiere team game for blind athletes.
The Northwest Avalanche team is made up of individuals of all ages, most of them from Clark County.
Victory FC soccer wins
Jordan Jones scored three goals and Nick Palodichuk one on Saturday as Vancouver Victory FC beat Westsound FC 4-2 in an Evergreen Premier League men’s soccer match in Silverdale.
All four Vancouver goals came in the first half as Victory FC improved to 8-3 and moved into second place in the EPL standings.
Prairie equestrians place
Alivia Stone of Prairie High School’s equestrian team won two events at the first Pacific Northwest Invitational Championships, a first-time event that brought together top finishers from the Washington and Oregon high school equestrian state meets.
Stone placed first in showmanship and in hunt seat equitation during the competition in Redmond, Ore. Placing second was Prairie’s freestyle drill team of Taylor Adams, Emily Bozarth, Stephanie Ivarsen, Casey Kampe, Devon LoBato, Chloe Nevins, Paige Rinta, Shelby Taylor, Beca Thomas and Kylie Vroman.
Stone placed third in Western horsemanship. Kampe placed third in breakaway roping. Thomas and Vroman tied for third in working pairs.
Buzzards blast Vipers into next season
The South Lane Buzzards beat the Clark County Vipers 55-0 on Saturday in a Pacific Football League game played in Hillsboro, Ore. Details from the game were not reported to The Columbian. Clark County was winless in eight league games this season. The Vipers won two non-league games.
