PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Woonsocket mother accused of illegally taking her 6-year-old son to Washington state and sparking an Amber Alert has pleaded not guilty.

Andria Britt appeared in Providence District Court on Thursday on a charge of child snatching. She was ordered held on $50,000 surety bail, ordered not to contact her son or his father, and ordered to undergo drug and mental health evaluations.

The 34-year-old Britt shared custody with the father. Authorities say she took him out of state this month in violation of a court order.

An Amber Alert was issued after police said her medical records and other documents led them to believe the boy might be in danger.

They were found safe.

The boy has been returned to his father, who was granted sole custody.
