SOCHI, Russia (AP) — The first application for a protest rally in Sochi has been approved.
Anton Gusev, the head of the Interior Ministry department on security at sports events, says the Sochi city administration has approved a rally on the situation in Ukraine. He did not provide any details or specify the date of the rally.
Gusev says a number of applications were received by the city but didn’t specify how many.
Russia authorities will allow demonstrations during the Sochi Olympics in a protest zone in nearby Khosta, a town on the Black Sea coast between the city of Sochi and the Olympic Park, about 12 kilometers (seven miles) from the nearest venues.
