ESD 112 hosts Poetry Out Loud Feb. 4

Twelve students from 12 regional high schools will participate in the Southwest Washington regional competition of the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Educational Services District 112, 2500 N.E. 65th Ave. This is a free, public event.

The competition, presented by the Washington State Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program encouraging high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition.

The top two finishers will advance to the state contest March 8 in Tacoma. The state champion will advance to the national finals April 29-30 in Washington, D.C., where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed.
