Burnt Bridge Creek — Nearly 300 volunteers honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. planted 7,000 trees last week along the Burnt Bridge Creek Greenway. The Vancouver Watersheds Alliance and other groups organized the planting day. A bulk of the helpers were students from Martin Luther King Elementary School and Fort Vancouver High School. “It was inspiring to see so many families working together to better our local watershed,” said Vancouver Watersheds Alliance Executive Director Sunrise O’Mahoney.
The tree planting was one of many volunteer events around the area to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, including ivy removal hosted by the Water Resources Education Center and the Evergreen School District Foundation’s Pantry Project donation drive that brought in 1,060 pounds of food and toiletries.
