SYDNEY (AP) — Sydney FC defender Tiago Calvano has agreed to a mutual termination of his contract with the A-League team and is reportedly headed to the United States to sign with an as-yet undisclosed club.
The 32-year-old Brazilian center back joined Sydney from the Newcastle Jets in January 2013 as an injury replacement and played 12 matches for Sydney side.
The Sydney FC statement Wednesday said his contract termination would allow him to take up an offer of a deal with a team in the U.S., but gave no further details.
Calvano hasn’t played for Sydney since its 3-2 home win against Melbourne Victory in November after serving an eight-game suspension after being charged with unsporting conduct towards a match official during that game.
