Marshall leadership nominations due Friday

The deadline for nominations for both the Marshall adult and youth leadership awards is 5 p.m. Friday.

The Fort Vancouver National Trust organizes the awards to honor the service of Gen. George C. Marshall, who lived in Vancouver from 1936 to 1938.

Marshall was Army chief of staff during World War II; secretary of state from 1947 to 1949; and won the 1953 Nobel Peace Prize.

• Adult Marshall Public Leadership Award: Nominees must be Clark County residents, 35 or younger, with a four-year college degree. Nominees must demonstrate leadership, commitment to public service and academic achievement, and potential for public service. The award includes $2,200 for a trip to the Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Va.; Colonial Williamsburg; and Washington, D.C.

• Marshall Youth Leadership Award: Nominees must be county residents in the 12th grade. They must demonstrate the values represented by Marshall. The award includes a $2,500 college scholarship and a $500 summer internship.

Winners will be honored at a dinner on March 26 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Sixth St.
