No complaints in the weather department Monday as we managed to squeeze yet out another dry day this month. Oh, wait a minute. I did have one complaint from my son-in-law who is in the construction business. He said it was really cold working outside Monday. Yep I know. It was a chilly overnight period with lows in the low to mid-20s in the wind-sheltered locations. And near freezing in the far east country where east winds continued to gust between 25-45 mph.
I have recorded the last 10 days with lows at freezing or below, most of those in the 20s. Many plants and shrubs are experiencing stress due to the extreme dry weather we have had. I noticed a couple of my cold-tolerant plants succumbed to the really cold weather back in December. I recorded a low of just 5 degrees one day last month.
OK, what’s on tap for the remainder of the week? Just as we chatted about Sunday, clouds and periods of rain will be with us until the weekend, as we dry out a bit. Freezing levels will gradually lower below the passes and any moisture that falls later in the week will be all snow down to 2,500 feet or so.
That’s good news. The bad news is that amounts will not be great as moisture is limited, but we will take whatever we can get at this point. The jet stream sags south into California leaving us with cool and scattered showers Friday. The inversion will be gone with below-freezing temperatures in the mountains and in the 30s and 40s locally.
