HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Reigning Olympic halfpipe champion Torah Bright is going to be pretty busy in Sochi.
The Australian star will compete in the halfpipe, slopestyle and snowboardcross competitions at next month’s Olympics. Bright is the first snowboard competitor to compete in all three disciplines at the games. Slopestyle is making its Olympic debut.
Bright, who soared to victory in Vancouver four years ago, took up snowboardcross in 2013 at the urging of her brother Ben, who also serves as her coach. The 27-year-old has competed in over a dozen snowboardcross events over the last year. Her best finish came in Andorra on Jan. 12 when she finished eighth.
Bright called the decision to try all three disciplines a chance to share the sport with the world.
