TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Mike Burwell scored 17 points as Towson ended a two-game losing streak after beating Hofstra 76-58 on Monday night.
Jerrelle Benimon and Marcus Damas also had big nights for Towson (13-8, 4-2 Colonial Athletic Association), scoring 15 points apiece. Benimon grabbed 10 rebounds helping the Tigers dominate the glass, 47-26. Benimon is now tied atop the nation for double-double’s after earning his 14th of the season and Damon eclipsed the 1,000 point mark in the second half.
Towson went to the free throw line 31 times, compared to just nine for Hofstra.
Zeke Upshaw led Hofstra (7-14, 3-3) with 20 points, but connected on just two of his 8 shots from beyond the arc. Dion Nesmith added 15 points for the Pride. Hofstra attempted 22 3-pointers, while Towson made 5 of 9.
It’s Towson’s best record after 20 games since the 1995-96 season.
