ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota political and business leaders say the cold-weather state would be ideally suited to host the 2018 Super Bowl in the Vikings’ new climate-controlled indoor stadium.
Gov. Mark Dayton and a team of business and community leaders launched Minnesota’s bid on Monday while area temperatures were below zero.
Minnesota boosters say the stadium set to open in 2016 will be a comfortable 70 degrees inside and will be connected to downtown hotels and restaurants by an indoor skyway.
Fans of snow and ice wouldn’t be left out in the cold, as the stadium will feature several 200-foot-tall windows and a roof that’s more than half-made of a clear, plastic-like substance.
NFL owners pick the 52nd Super Bowl site next month. Indianapolis and New Orleans are also finalists.
