Spartans Futbol Club, a Vancouver-based men’s soccer team, will play for the Oregon Premier Soccer League championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Buckman Field in Portland.

Spartans FC finished atop the league standings and won a semifinal match last month to reach the OPSL title match. Its opponent will be Kells FC Swoosh, a team supported by Nike and by Kells Irish Pub.

Admission is free. Buckman Field is on Northeast 12th Avenue between Everett and Glisan streets in Portland.

Formed in February 2013, Spartans Futbol Club is based in Vancouver. Six players live in Vancouver: goalkeeper Jason Hines, forward Paco Thomas, midfielder Sergio Medel (a team captain and assistant coach), forward Omar Gomez, defender Brody Vogue, and defender Jordan White.

Spartans FC recently were admitted to the National Premier Soccer League. The NPSL is a professional league in the fourth-tier of the U.S. Soccer Federation pyramid.

Spartans owner Gary Allen said the club would play as an amateur team in 2014 to maintain college eligibility for some of its players. It plans to play home games in 2014 at Concordia University in Portland, but that the club will seek a permanent home in Vancouver.
