DENVER (AP) — The Nuggets have honored Carl Scheer for helping guide Denver’s franchise from the ABA to the NBA.
Scheer came to Denver in Denver in 1974 won ABA executive of the year honors in 1974-75 and 1975-76 while rebuilding the ABA’s Denver Rockets.
The Nuggets moved to the NBA on his watch, winning two consecutive Midwest Division titles and making it to the Western Conference Finals. The Nuggets went to the playoffs in eight of Scheer’s 10 seasons and led the NBA in attendance several years.
Now a minority owner and CEO of the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL, Scheer is most proud of “the day that the NBA said that for all the players and $3.2 million dollars, you can become major league. That was my greatest day.”
