Veteran Portland television newscaster Carl Click, a Vancouver resident and native, said Friday that he was retiring from KATU-TV at the end of March.

“It’s just the right time for me and for my family,” said Click, who has worked in television journalism for 31 years. Click, 53, said that after working 17 years on a very early-morning schedule, “it’s a litle too much, and it’s time for me to rest.”

Click has worked nine years for KATU and spent 22 years before that at KGW-TV. He’s worked as a sports and news reporter, news anchor, and host of KATU’s popular AM Northwest show. He said he feels very fortunate to have spent his full television career in the his hometown market. “It’s been just the most wonderful ride,” Click said.

Although he is leaving TV journalism, Click said he’ll be pursuing other professional opportunities and will continue as a coach in local schools. He coaches girls basketball at Columbia River High School and helps with tennis coaching at Skyview High School.

Click, who lives in Felida with his wife, Jil, is a 1979 graduate of Fort Vancouver High School.
