Campbell beats Radford 65-63 in Big South showdown

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Reco McCarter scored 12 points, five in a late 7-0 run that allowed Campbell to escape with a 65-63 win over Radford in a showdown for the Big South lead Wednesday night.

McCarter made 3 of 5 free throws and a layup as the Camels took a 65-62 lead with 9 seconds left. The Highlanders made a free throw, missed the second and grabbed an offensive rebound with 5 seconds left giving them one last chance. After a timeout, R.J. Price missed a 3-pointer with a second left.

Darius Leonard and Kyre’ Hamer had 14 each for Campbell (10-10, 4-1).

Radford, which was denied the 600th win in program history, led 39-30 at half and pushed it to 13 early in the second half. The Camels clawed back to grab a lead with 7:26 to go.

Price led Highlanders (13-7, 3-2) with 12.
