Vermont smothers Vermont in second half, 57-40

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Kurt Steidl scored 16 points and Brian Voelkel added seven with 15 rebounds and seven assists as Vermont defeated New Hampshire 57-40 Monday night.

New Hampshire (3-15, 1-4 American East) moved out to a 16-8 lead in the first half and coasted towards a 30-20 advantage at the break.

The Catamounts (11-8, 5-0) stormed back and took a 43-35 lead in the second half as Steidl drained three 3-pointers and Sandro Carissimo hit two to spark a 19-0 run. Tommy McDonnell ended the New Hampshire drought with a layup to make it a six-point game, but Vermont closed with a 14-3 run for the final margin.

Vermont outrebounded New Hampshire 39-26. Carissimo finished with 11 points.

The Wildcats were held to 10 points in the second half. Jacoby Armstrong led New Hampshire with 11 points and Jordon Bronner had 10.
