ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Matthew Hezekiah, who scored 19 points, hit two go-ahead free throws with 12.7 seconds left in overtime to lift South Carolina State past Bethune-Cookman 69-67 Monday night.
Bethune-Cookman (2-19, 0-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 29-10 lead in the first half and led 38-25 at halftime.
The Bulldogs (6-12, 2-3) crawled back in the second half and Hezekiah hit a jumper with 1:27 remaining to force overtime.
Hezekiah tied the score at 67 in overtime with a layup at the 1:46 mark. Following a missed 3-pointer and layup by the Wildcats, Hezekiah sank two from the line for the final margin. Clemmye Owens couldn’t connect on a 3-pointer as time expired.
