Professional Writers series at WSUV again

Six award-winning writers from the Pacific Northwest will discuss the writing process, the trajectory of their careers and insight into the publishing process as part of the annual Professional Writers Series at Washington State University Vancouver.

Presentations are from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays between Jan. 29 and April 9 in the Library, Room 265 at the campus, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave. Meter parking and in the Blue Daily Pay Lot for $1.50 after 5 p.m. Parking is free after 7 p.m.

The writers speaking at the free, public events are:

• Jan. 29: Karen Karbo presents “Writing from the Heart and the Funnybones.” Her latest book, “Julia Child Rules: Lessons on Savoring Life,” is part of her “Kick Ass Women” series.

• Feb. 12: Monica Drake discusses “Nurturing the Story.” Her latest novel, “The Stud Book” addresses the complexities of contemporary motherhood.

• March 5: Vern Rutsala presents “A Poet’s Uncommon Vision.” Rutsala’s 12 poetry collections include “The Moment’s Equation,” a 2005 National Book Award finalist.

• March 12: Peter Rock presents “The Novel as Human.” His latest novel, “The Shelter Cycle,” is based on 1990 events in Montana when members of the Church Universal and Triumphant prepared for the end of the world.

• March 26: Lidia Yuknavitch discusses “Breaking Literary Boundaries.” Her latest novel, “Dora: A Head Case,” is based on a case study by Sigmund Freud.n April 9: Lee Montgomery discusses “Publishing Platforms: Old vs New.” The associate publisher and editorial director at Tin House Books for 10 years, she will launch Shebooks, an e-book platform, in February.
