KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs’ Derrick Johnson was chosen Monday to replace injured 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman in the Pro Bowl, giving Kansas City nine players in the all-star game.
San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh said after Sunday’s 23-17 season-ending loss to Seattle that Bowman is believed to have torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Bowman had 145 tackles, five sacks, two interceptions and four forced fumbles this season.
This will be Johnson’s third straight Pro Bowl, and comes after one of the finest seasons of his nine-year career. He had 110 tackles, 412 sacks and two interceptions.
He’ll be joined in Hawaii by Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert, safety Eric Berry, running back Jamaal Charles, cornerback Brandon Flowers, defensive tackle Dontari Poe, punt returner Dexter McCluster and linebackers Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.
Charles is among four player captains picked for the Jan. 26 game.
