Home foreclosure prevention: The Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program hosts a free foreclosure prevention and information seminar from 6 to 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 1409 Franklin St., Suite 101, Vancouver. The foreclosure process and timelines are explained and homeowners are provided with information about accessing free legal services. Forecast breakfast:
The Columbian’s 2014 Economic Forecast Breakfast, “Turning Promise into Prosperity,” presented by Riverview Community Bank, 7 to 11 a.m. at Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Training for home-based businesses: The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce offers a five-week training series on topics related to operating home-based businesses, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every other Thursday, beginning Jan. 23, at chamber office, 1101 Broadway, Suite 100. A farmers market conference:
The Washington State Farmers Market Association, with more than 110 members, has selected Vancouver for its largest ever annual conference to be held Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at the Heathman Lodge, 7801 N.E. Greenwood Drive, Vancouver. Market organizers, farmers, volunteers and other professionals will assemble to learn about best practices in farmers market management, food safety, new point-of-sale technologies, regulations and sales and sampling practices. Keynote speaker is Russ Parson, food editor of the Los Angeles Times. Local organizations are playing a key role in supporting the conference. Free tax help for low income: Free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low and moderate income of all ages, with special attention to those age 60 and older, is available from AARP Tax-Aide Feb. 1 through April 15. Photo ID is required for the taxpayer present and must bring acceptable proof of Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number for every person on the tax return. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers, trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, will offer assistance with personal income tax returns at the following sites: Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St.; Three Creeks Community Library, 800-C E.
