WENGEN, Switzerland (AP) — Marcel Hirscher of Austria leads the first run of a World Cup slalom on Sunday, seeking a victory to go atop the overall standings.
Hirscher timed 51.22 seconds, 0.23 faster than Andre Myhrer of Sweden. They finished 1-2 when Hirscher won at nearby Adelboden last Sunday.
Felix Neureuther of Germany was third, with 0.64 to make up in the second run.
Two-time defending overall champion Hirscher needs the 100 World Cup points awarded for wins to overtake Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who skips slaloms.
Bode Miller of the United States placed 21st, trailing Hirscher by 2.62.
Ted Ligety of the U.S., who won the super-combined event on Friday, finished outside the top 30 placings that qualify for a second run.
